Problems with Camtasia PLUS our New Mac Computers

iMac-27inchWe have been trying to produce some new ASMR videos over the past couple of days but are having problems with Camtasia which is the video editing program we are using. We keep getting the “out of memory’ error message….so annoying!  TechSmith have a patch that is supposed to fix it but it didn’t work for us.

We figure our computers are just getting on a bit and we have been having thinking about getting new ones for a while now…this was just the final push for us to do it. We work online so need good quality computers since we sit in front of them for most of the day.

We were looking at getting the latest Dell computers with Microsoft 8 installed but I must admit the new Windows doesn’t impress me much. I think I am over Windows in some ways and want something new and fresh. So after quite a bit of research we decided on taking the plunge and going with a couple of new iMac computers.

It’s going to be a bit of a learning curve for us but from what I have seen from these computers, they can do some amazing things so we are up for the challenge. We will still have our old Windows computers sitting next to us on our desks so we aren’t going to throw them out just yet. We aren’t even sure if we can do everything we want to do on the Mac just yet so until we do, the Windows computers stay put.

Apart from the fact that we wanted a change from Windows, the Macs also have a number of programs that are more suited for us when creating ASMR videos. The first is Garageband. This is a program that is automatically installed with any new Mac. It’s basically a recording studio on your computer. I have it installed on my iPad and love it and it is what we have been using to create the ASMR audios we have done so far.  However, the full version is only available on a Mac computer.

They also have a more advanced version of Garageband called Logic Pro. It costs around $200 but at this stage we are not sure whether we really need it yet but at least the option is there.

I’m also keen to try out iMovie for editing the videos. I’m not sure whether it will replace Camtasia but from what I have seen it can do some cool stuff and it looks really simple to use.

So at this point, we are really looking forward to the Macs arriving so we can get more ASMR videos up.

What is ASMR?

ASMR is one of those things that is often difficult to explain because it is more of a feeling than anything else. ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and at its most simplest can be defined as a tingly sensation that is most often felt at the back of the head although it can also be felt down the back, arms and even the legs. That tingly feeling comes about due to certain audio or visual triggers like a tapping sound or the soft patter of the rain, the sound of someone whispering or watching someone performing a mundane repetitive task. It's a very soothing feeling and very relaxing.
